Aging and Disability Services Division

The Aging and Disability Services Division in the State of Nevada, Department of Health and Human Services, represents Nevadans aged 60 years and older and those with disabilities.
The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division is to develop, coordinate, and deliver a comprehensive support service system of essential services, which will allow Nevada's elders and those with disabilities to lead independent, meaningful, and dignified lives.

Programs and Services

Advocate for Elders

Advocacy, assistance, information and referral to frail seniors, who are 60 years of age or older, primarily homebound and living in the community and their caregivers.
Assisted Living (AL) Waiver
Assisted living supportive services to eligible individuals in a residential facility as an alternative to nursing home placement.
Community Options Program for the Elderly (COPE)
Non-medical services to older persons to help them maintain independence in their own homes as an alternative to nursing home placement. Similar to the HCBW Program.
Disability Rx
Assistance with the cost of prescription medicines to qualified individuals with disabilities.
Elder Protective Services (EPS)
For persons 60 years old and older who may experience abuse, neglect, exploitation, or isolation.
Disability Services
The Office of Disability Services provides resources at the community level which promote equal opportunity and life choices for people with disabilities through which they may positively contribute to Nevada.

Information for current and/or prospective grantees.
Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBW formerly CHIP)
Non-medical services to older persons to help them maintain independence in their own homes as an alternative to nursing home placement.
Homemaker Program
General housekeeping, limited meal preparation, shopping, laundering, errands, standby assistance with bathing, and home management services.
IDEA Part C Office
Provides oversight of Part C (early intervention services) of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Long Term Care Ombudsman
Addresses issues and problems faced by residents in long term care facilities, which includes residential facilities for groups.
Senior Ride Program
Discounted taxicab fares to seniors and persons with disabilities residing in Clark County. (Washoe County and Fernley Taxi Services also have programs of this type. See the Senior Ride page for more info.)
Senior Rx
Nevada's plan to provide Nevada seniors relief from the high cost of prescription medicine.
State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)
Medicare Counseling. Information, counseling and assistance to Medicare Beneficiaries in Nevada, utilizing a statewide network of volunteers.
Senior Tax Assistance/Rent Rebate Program
This statewide program refunds a portion of the property tax paid by eligible senior citizens on their residence or by property taxes paid by renters through their rent.
Waiver for the Elderly in Adult Residential Care (WEARC)
Non-medical services in a group care setting to offer individuals a less expensive alternative of supervised care in a residential setting.
