The Idaho
Commission on Aging plans and coordinates, funds, and monitors
a statewide program of services to assist Idahoans in planning
for present and future Long Term Care needs by partnering with
six statewide Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) to help ensure
that older Americans and their families have the information
and assistance they need to make informed decisions and
choices about their care options. These choices help
families care for their loved ones, help people stay in
their homes, and provide care options other than nursing home
facilities. The Area Agency on Aging will soon be expanding
their roles with participation as a single point entry for the
Aging and Disability Resource Centers.
Each
AAA develops a plan for its service area, assuring that
programs and services respond to local needs. The
planning process includes a comprehensive needs analysis,
research, service delivery strategies, and involvement of
older persons in the planning and operation of programs to
meet their special needs.
Programs
and Services provided by the AAA are: the Family
Caregiver Support Program, Ombudsman,
Adult
Protection, In-home
Support Services, Nutrition
Services, Medicare
Information, and Additional
Services.

Nursing Home Resources
|
|
| As
people age or suffer health problems, they may need assistance in
daily living tasks or more intensive care a nursing home
can provide.
Families making decisions about
placing a loved one in an assisted living facility or a
nursing home can find choosing the right facility for
their family member a daunting task.
Here are some
resources:
Choosing
a Nursing Home:
Comprehensive guide developed by Medicare;
Can
I Get Help with Nursing Home Costs?: Guide for
qualifying for Medicaid when you or your spouse needs care;
Compare
Nursing Homes in Your Region:
Medicare Nursing Home Compare home page. While the data alone
should not be the only source for choosing a nursing home, the
information provides compliance with regulations during the
last state inspection, provider demographics, i.e., location,
size, and comparison of resident conditions.
This information will allow you to compare nursing homes in
specific regions or geographical areas. It can be used to help you
decide what type of questions you may want to ask when
investigating/visiting a nursing home. |
